Research and detailed planning are optional. A short request asks for your need, name, email and permission to reply.
CHFI organizes digital-investigation knowledge. Consider it when your work involves preserving, examining and explaining digital evidence, rather than primarily testing a system for vulnerabilities.
A certification does not confer investigative authority, legal permission, expert-witness status or competence for every evidence source. Match training to your organization’s approved procedures and the systems you need to examine.

Exam access: official training provides an eligibility route. Without it, EC-Council requires two years of applicable information-security experience, an application and approval. See the CHFI application section before buying a voucher.
Recommended preparation from Learnerside: working Windows/Linux and file-system knowledge, log interpretation, basic networking and careful documentation. Add guided practice in evidence handling if it is new to you. These are learning recommendations, separate from the issuer’s entry rules.
For a team, compare starting skills and job tasks individually. Eligibility or course completion alone does not show that a learner can benefit from a fast review class.
EC0 312-49 · 150 questions · four hours. The certification-body exam page identifies the assessment. Confirm delivery and accommodations before booking.
The certification portal identifies EC0 312-49 and ECC exam delivery. A course’s hands-on labs do not turn the certification assessment into a separate practical exam. Confirm the exact voucher and delivered course edition with the seller.
Course branding and exam blueprints serve different purposes. Require an outline mapped to the linked blueprint; a familiar course title does not establish coverage.
CHFI blueprint v4.0, pages 2–16 lists the following knowledge domains. These are exam-scope weights, not evidence of performed work or a complete course syllabus.

Original practice idea: use a synthetic log bundle to build an event timeline, record file hashes and handling steps, and explain which conclusions the evidence cannot support. Ask for feedback on the reasoning and report. This is a learning exercise, not an exam question or pass predictor.
CHFI exam-only budget: USD 750, including a USD 650 ECC voucher and USD 100 application. These are published-route arithmetic for an approved applicant without official training, observed October 11, 2026—not an all-in training quote. Check the applicable fee table.
After official training, inspect the bundle before adding another voucher. Courseware alone is study material; buying it does not establish training-path eligibility. Tuition, taxes, retakes, licensed labs, access expiry and study time must be priced separately. Regional and seller terms may change the total.
Include annual maintenance and continuing education. Use confirmed charges, estimates and unknowns as separate lines in an employer budget.
Choose self-paced study for flexible hours, or live instruction when guided practice and questions address a real gap. These formats provide different support. Compare the exact package before comparing its price.
Format and published cost: Advertised starting amounts: on-demand $1,699; live online $2,499; in-person $3,299. Confirm currency, selected package, voucher, access term and total. The linked detail pages request information rather than establish a complete purchasable bundle.

Issuer-direct training, with a 16-section outline. It separately lists self-paced and live formats. Database investigation appears in this outline; provider v11 outlines group topics differently. No selected lab entitlement, feedback or seat was operated.

EC-Council supplies the issuer-direct option. New Horizons and ONLC describe themselves as authorized or accredited on their own sites; Learning Tree lists official curriculum. These are distinct from current issuer confirmation for the exact contracting seller, region and course.

The issuer’s 16-section course outline covers these topic families, paraphrased below. This is taught curriculum, separate from the exam-domain percentages above. The provider v11 outlines linked here list 15 sections; database investigation appears in the issuer outline. Confirm the delivered edition and coverage rather than assuming the outlines are identical.
For a beginner, establish operating-system, networking and evidence-handling foundations before an accelerated class. Experienced investigators can compare targeted practice or approved internal learning with a full course. For a mixed team, ask for starting-skill checks, permitted evidence sets and feedback on each learner’s investigation report.
Compare evidence acquisition, artifact examination, timeline building and reporting tasks. Tool familiarity, documented methods and supervised casework matter alongside theory.
Investigation learning can support incident analysis, but detection engineering, containment and recovery need their own practice. Look at the duties rather than assuming all analyst roles are forensic roles.
U.S. salary context: BLS reports a May 2025 median annual wage of USD 129,180 for Information Security Analysts, SOC 15-1212, checked October 11, 2026. Read the occupation data. This broad occupation is context, not a CHFI-holder salary, a starting offer or a specific forensic-investigator or penetration-tester statistic. Location, responsibilities and experience affect offers; no credential pay premium is established.
Before buying, compare a real role’s requirements with your current work samples and the course’s practice. Certification, employment eligibility and demonstrated skill are separate.
The continuing-education policy includes CHFI in the 120-credit, three-year scheme. The fee table lists USD 80 annually / USD 240 over three years, observed October 11, 2026. Credit activities and personal deadlines require their own check; paying the fee alone does not meet the credit requirement.
This is maintenance context, not a complete renewal bill. Confirm your account’s cycle, eligible activities and how multiple credentials affect payment before budgeting.
Credential observations checked October 11, 2026: assessment details, eligibility and fee tables, CHFI blueprint v4.0, pages 2–16, training options, continuing education and maintenance fees. The BLS wage source is linked above. Course and provider observations above were separately checked October 16, 2026; that does not redate the exam fees, renewal or salary data.
